Our Covenant

Forest Home Covenant

Forest Home was first settled and farmed by Richard Theophilus Tankersley (Lyn's Great grandfather) late 1860's. He set aside this patch of bush to be protected & preserved.

Lyn & Hayden purchased Forest Home in 1982 and in February 2013 preserved this 1.02 hectares as a QE2 National Trust Open Space Covenant. The trust helped with completing the fencing and provides on-going support with pest eradication and maintenance advice.

This tawa/titoki lowland forest has a wide variety of native fauna & flora including the Gastrodia orchid and that "living fossil" Peripatus.

We provide personal & group tours of the covenant. Several tracks have been made allowing visitors access to the interesting features with many of the plant labelled.
